My journey to studying in Canada - Part 2
On December 7th, 2018, I attended a conference at my high school to learn more about Canaway Academy and its pathway program for high school students.
In front of an audience of about 100 people (parents, students, teachers), the founder and CEO of Canaway Academy, Raul F. Chong, explained the different services offered by Canaway:
- English classes,
- Immersion camps in Canada,
- Higher education advice and
- Canaway Private School (CPS), a Canadian virtual high school.
I am intrigued and amazed at the opportunities that were presented. Mr. Chong is also an alumnus of my high school, so this gives me confidence about Canaway’s programs.
I’m particularly interested in the Canadian virtual high school offering through Canaway Private School (CPS) because it allows me to obtain the Ontario high school diploma (OSSD) while studying virtually from Peru. By obtaining the OSSD, I would be receiving the exact same diploma as a Canadian student, and would have more flexibility and ease to apply to Canadian Universities! Moreover, maybe scholarships will be easier to obtain (?)… I don’t know at this point, but I most definitely would like to learn more!
From the presentation, I understood I could apply directly to universities in Ontario and other provinces in Canada and have more chances of being accepted (there are required courses to apply to certain programs in Canadian universities and students can take them at Canaway Private School).
I have always thought that studying abroad is a great opportunity for me to learn new things and become more independent, but I wasn’t sure that I really wanted to pursue my higher education studies in another country until today. Through his presentation, Mr. Chong revealed the benefits of studying in Canada and I was simply fascinated by this country, which embraces multiculturalism, offers high-quality education and exceptional job opportunities.
I believe that CPS is an interesting option that will allow me to improve my English skills and achieve my goal of studying in top universities in Canada. I am looking forward to learning more about this school and experiencing homeschooling with Canadian teachers.
